WINTER HIKE TO FISHING LAKE A shorter or longer winter hike through unspoilt nature to an idyllic lake. Lake Ribnica is situated in the middle of a peat bog at an altitude of 1480 metres, and the path to the lake offers some great views of the white peaks around the village. If you want an easier nature walk, start at the Ribnica hut and after a 30-minute walk you will reach the lake. For those looking for a longer and more challenging hike, there are also other trails leading to Lake Ribnica. BAR SMUČAR A small wooden house right next to the ski slope has been developing since 2004, when it first opened its doors to all fans of winter activities. In the Ski Bar you can warm up with a delicious hot chocolate, hot tea or a little cooked meal. The sun terrace, equipped with sun loungers and a great view of the ski slope, is enjoyed daily by many children and their chaperones, who can watch their children enjoying ski lessons and other mischief. The famous Pohorje Picnic Area is located near the bar and attracts many outdoor enthusiasts in summer. This popular destination, surrounded by the lush forests of Pohorje, offers an idyllic setting for family outings, friendly get-togethers and various recreational activities. The picnic area is equipped with a number of benches and tables, allowing you to sit comfortably and enjoy meals al fresco. In addition, there are barbecue grills where visitors can prepare their own delicious meals. WINTER HIKE TO CRNI VRH Climb to the highest peak of Pohorje. Črni vrh (Black Peak) climbs 1,543 metres and offers a magnificent view of the sky on all sides. If you start your hike at the Ribnica hut, you'll only have to walk for about an hour along the well-marked trail to the top. When the snow falls, the hike turns into a winter fairy tale that is definitely worth experiencing. KOPE SKI SCHOOL Kope Ski Resort is the main ski centre in the Carinthia region. It is situated at the westernmost point of Pohorje between 1010 m and 1542 m above sea level, above the town of Slovenj Gradec. Thanks to the extensive plateaus and plains that characterise the easily accessible slopes of Pohorje, the terrain of the ski resort is extremely varied. There is a 15 km long cross-country skiing track between the Grmovský Špindlerův Mlýn chalet and the Ribniško chalet. The long ski runs of varying difficulty are suitable for all recreational skiers as well as the most demanding ski enthusiasts. The longest ski slope has an altitude difference of 500 metres. THE FORGE AT THE FORGE In the old days, every farm in Pohorje had its own forge. They needed it for repairing agricultural and forestry tools. The craft of metalworking, especially iron and steel, was known in the countryside as early as the 10th century, but it only came to the towns two centuries later. Today, forges are almost non-existent. However, the blacksmith's forge at Kovač maintains its 200-year-old tradition of blacksmithing. The tradition eloquently illustrates the hard work of the local people and intertwines the past with the present. The blacksmith's forge preserves the machines and tools that the ancestors needed on the farm (spring hammer, hand drill, large firebox, etc.). Under the hand of a master blacksmith, you can experience real craftsmanship from iron to product. All visitors can make their own souvenir to take home.
