Forest learning path Kapelvald

The Forest Learning Path Kapelvald in Josipdol has been opened since 1993. At its beginning, you are welcomed by a beautiful linden tree alley, which, with the help of orientation tables, shows you all the stops where you can refresh yourself.

Along the way, you can observe numerous tree species (sequoia, Atlas and Lebanese cedar, red beech, Swiss pine, yellow pine, Mariana spruce, black walnut, red oak, etc…).

You will then follow a gentle ascent over the hill, which is named Kapelvald due to the chapel at the top. The path then leads you past the Church of St. Joseph, built by quarry workers in the last century.

You continue past Lenarčič Manor and its tree nursery to the Štručevo plateau. You proceed along the flat area and slowly begin to descend back toward the road. The path takes you through the village of Josipdol back to the starting point.

During the path, you will learn about the history of the area. The organized museum collections and the open-air museum provide detailed information about forestry, glassmaking, and stonemasonry in the region. The learning path places special emphasis on raising awareness that a preserved natural environment is a prerequisite for human existence.
