SLIVNICA OKP 5-3

The Cycling Route Slivnica (OKP 5-3) is suitable for all recreational cyclists and lovers of cultural heritage monuments.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE

From Ribnica na Pohorju, head towards Podvelka. At the signpost, turn right onto the dirt road and ascend to the Petrun farm. Continue along the forest road, which descends to the Zapečnik farm.

There, head towards the settlement of Josipdol. A linden tree alley will provide shade all the way to the bridge where you join the Podvelka – Ribniško Pohorje road. Continue on the road towards Podvelka, where you turn left and arrive in the beautiful valley of the Slivnica stream. After a pleasant ride, head back towards Ribnica na Pohorju.

POINTS OF INTEREST ALONG THE ROUTE

Open-Air Museum Josipdol – established by the locals. Here you can find a glass-making furnace, a water channel, a charcoal pit, and a wooden house — a traditional Pohorje house. The wooden channel was once 13 km long and was used for transporting wood from the surrounding forests. Workers — POŠTARJI — mended the channel to ensure that the firewood did not get stuck. Josipdol is a young settlement from the 18th century, known for being the site where the last glassworks in Pohorje ceased operations 100 years ago.

Church of St. Joseph the Worker – built in Josipdol in 1972, on the site of a previous chapel. The new church was consecrated by Bishop Dr. Maksimilijan Držečnik. It was built from materials gathered nearby: glass, stone from a local quarry and wood from the surrounding forests, while the altar was made of rock.

Linden Tree Alley is located along the local road at Josipdol. The alley is 150 meters long and 80 years old. It is one of the few roadside tree alleys in Slovenia.

Old House at Keber is a very well-preserved old farmhouse. It is made of stone and partially of wood. The interior is arranged quite traditionally. The wooden ceiling and black kitchen with a vaulted arch are preserved. To the left of the house stands a cellar made of stone and dug into the hill.
